Casa Cuchalala, El Torón II, located in the El Torón Reserve on the coast of Oaxaca, is an exceptional example of how contemporary architecture can harmoniously integrate with its natural surroundings, prioritizing biodiversity and the landscape. This project, conceived by Ignacio Urquiza with the collaboration of Ana Paula de Alba on interiors and furnishings, stands out for its commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation. With a constructed area of 700 m² and completed in 2021, the residence features four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, distributed across four independent pavilions that adapt to the existing topography and vegetation, demonstrating a profound respect for the environment. The materials used in its construction and interior design, including concrete, tropical wood, local stone, and adapted textiles, reflect the region's richness and ensure a subtle integration into the landscape. The spatial organization, from common areas to private rooms, and the decision to keep three sides of each module open, foster a direct and continuous relationship with the exterior, allowing inhabitants to experience nature intimately. This design philosophy places the natural context as the true protagonist, turning the residential experience into a direct extension of the house. Furthermore, the strategic orientation of the pavilions and the intelligent design of the roofs seek to protect the interiors from direct sunlight and promote natural ventilation, contributing to the home's energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
